Video of fire station collapsing and crushing fire engines not from Ghana

A video circulating on social media shows that a fire station building has collapsed, crushing fire engines.

The video captioned “Fire station building collapsed, damaging firefighters” was shared on Facebook and YouTube, and it shows a fire station building which has collapsed and crushed its fire engines.

Even though the account that posted the video did not categorically state that the incident happened in Ghana, many handles that commented and shared the video assumed it was from Ghana. This may be because the painting of the fighter station is similar to Ghana National Fire Service buildings. The handles that shared the video therefore called on authorities to urgently address the issue. Others questioned the safety and engineering integrity of the fire station.

Fact-Check Ghana has verified the video and found out that the incident did not happen in Ghana.

The video circulating is an incident which happened in Sagaing in the Sagaing region of Myanmar.

There has been an earthquake in Myanmar, which has led to the death of more than 1,600 people. A report by BBC News states that Mandalay, the ancient capital and second-largest city with a population of approximately 1.5 million, has been devastated by the earthquake, leaving much of it in ruins.

Other portals like Deccan Herald and Zimlive News have reported the earthquake in Myanmar with the collapse of the fire station in Sagaing.

Therefore, the video about a fire station building collapsing onto its fire engines happened in Sagaing, Myanmar and not in Ghana.
