Fact-Check Ghana has monitored comments made by Philemon Laar, a member of the Communication Team of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), indicating that the fact-checking outlet has conducted a survey which reported that 96% of Ghanaians think Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is not credible.

Mr Laar made the comments on April 29, 2024, on Accra-based Joy Prime where he was a guest representing the NDC on the station’s morning show programme, Prime Morning.

Fact-Check Ghana has not conducted any such survey. It has also not published any story that stated that 96% of Ghanaians do not consider the Presidential Candidate of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Bawumia, credible.

Fact-Check Ghana is not a polling institution and therefore does not conduct public opinion surveys. It is a project under the Media for Peace and Sustainable Development programme of the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA). As a fact-checking project, the platform aims to protect information integrity and enhance fact-based public discourse, debates and decision-making in Ghana’s democratic governance and development processes. This objective is executed by fact-checking claims, statements, promises and messages that are of public interest, and widely publicising findings to help the public make informed opinions, decisions and choices.

Fact-Check Ghana entreats its readers and the general public to disregard the claim by Mr Philemon Laar that it has conducted a survey which reported that nearly all Ghanaians believe the vice president who is also the flagbearer of the NPP has no credibility. The claim is completely false!
