The then Gold Coast elected Mabel Dove Danquah, as the first Ghanaian woman to the Gold Coast Legislative Assembly in 1954. Since then, the doors of parliament has been de jure opened to both women. Below is a distribution of the current Members of the Parliament of Ghana according to gender.
