Some handles on X ( formerly Twitter) have alleged that Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has deleted tweets he made from 2013 to 2017.

Bawumia has deleted all his tweets from 2013 to 2017. You’re a fraud @MBawumia

— Ghana Mu Nsemsem (@ghanamunsemsem_) December 7, 2023

Between 2013 to 2016, Veep Bawumia who’s also the flagbearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) is noted to have made many critical posts about the erstwhile John Mahama government. During the period, he also made promises about the different policies a new NPP government would implement to improve the economy and stabilize the cedi.

Dr Bawumia’s old posts or tweets have today been often used to hold him to account across social media platforms.

The claims alleging that Dr Bawumia has deleted his old tweets are therefore suggesting that the vice president is running away from his own words or avoiding accountability.

Fact-Check Ghana has verified the claim and presents the findings below.

Claim: “Bawumia has deleted all his tweets from 2013 to 2017”

Verdict: Completely False

Explanation: Fact-Check Ghana used the advanced search option on the X to review the old posts on the official handle of the vice president. The advanced search option on X helps in finding old posts, specific posts or conversations between handles on the platform.

The team’s search revealed that tweets or posts of the official handle of the Vice President from 2013 – 2017 are still available. While Fact-Check Ghana cannot confirm if Dr Bawumia has deleted some of the posts, it is not accurate that all his posts between 2013 to 2017 have been deleted.

As proof, Fact-Check Ghana searched for tweets the vice president made between 2013 to 2017 in which he mentioned “economy”. The team counted about 83 tweets. Below are five of such tweets the team found (The tweets have been embedded on the website in a way readers can click and make their own assessment).
