Akufo-Addo’s tweets about the cedi during Atta Mills-Mahama era

The cedi has been on a free fall against the dollar in the last few days. Currently valued on the average of GH₵ 14  to a dollar, the Ghana cedi is reported to be the weakest currency in the world.

This is contrary to promises made by the then New Patriotic Party (NPP) Candidate, Akufo-Addo.

Using open-source intelligence (OSINT) and advanced search tools, Fact-Check Ghana searched the comments and promises Nana Akufo-Addo made about stabilizing the cedi when in opposition on Twitter.

Between 2011 to 2016, then candidate Akufo-Addo made six (6) recoverable tweets about the cedi. His tweets mainly criticized the Atta Mills and John Mahama governments for what he considered the “poor management of the cedi”, while assuring Ghanaians that should he get the nod, his government would do better.
