On Friday, April 3, 2020, GhanaWeb.com published a story with the headline: ‘11 Togolese Tests Positive for Coronavirus in Kumasi’. The story, which has been circulated across many social media platforms, suggested that eleven Togolese nationals who were captured by the Kumasi Metropolitan Health Committee have tested positive for the Coronavirus (Covid-19).

The story has been verified by the fact-checking team of the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA). Below is the verdict and explanation

Verdict: Completely False

Explanation: The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly has issued a statement to debunk the story, adding that the publication is mischievous.

“The KMA would like to state categorically that the publication is utterly false and a mischief in the highest order in this era where everyone is advocating for calm instead of fear,” the statement said.
